Poshmark serves as an online marketplace and social commerce platform, enabling users to buy and sell a variety of fashion items, including new and used clothing and accessories. Users can create accounts, list items for sale, and engage in transactions with other members on the platform.
As a team, our assignment involved assessing the usability heuristics of an established digital product using Jakob Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design. Opting for Poshmark—a platform we were familiar with and recognized needed usability enhancements—I collaborated on this project with Siying Wei.
The observed issues revolve around a transactional flow lacking consistency and an unfamiliar shopping experience, significantly impacting product usability by conflicting throughout the user journey.
The use of varied terminology and an unconventional shopping interface can lead to user confusion, especially with the absence of a universal "add to cart" experience. The cart division by merchant further adds to the counterintuitive nature for users.

Our redesign prioritizes a simplified and easily navigable transaction flow, adjusting the placement of sections to highlight community actions outside the shopping funnel. This strategic move aims to prevent information overload and retain customer engagement.
Poshmark should contemplate implementing the suggested changes to streamline its user experience.
While the focus on building a social community around second-hand buying is commendable, the challenge lies in overhauling the transactional flow. This proves problematic as it diverges from the familiar, straightforward user expectations.
The current design overlooks the fact that users primarily seek a seamless buying experience without unnecessary complexity.
Ensuring that the app caters to user needs and expectations is crucial for success.
Users appreciate an interface that is intuitive and straightforward, especially in the context of e-commerce.
Overemphasizing community features at the expense of a clear shopping experience can lead to user confusion.
